Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing treatment is often our second line of defense against gum disease after more thorough at-home oral hygiene recommendations. This treatment takes place over the course of two visits to our office and aims to drastically minimize the build-up of infection-causing bacteria in the mouth. As a result, patients are able to notice minimized symptoms and discomfort, and our team is able to help prevent tooth loss and other more serious consequences from arising.

Laser Periodontal Treatment

During your scaling and root planing procedure, we may utilize our Biolase soft tissue laser. This advanced piece of technology is able to kill bacteria on-contact and effortlessly remove severely damage gum tissue, leaving healthy tissue behind to better protect your teeth. By using this advanced piece of technology, our team is able to create a more comfortable treatment and recovery experience for our patients, as well as eliminate the need for a scalpel and sutures!

Antibiotic Treatment

Arestin antibiotic treatment is typically recommended in conjunction with scaling and root planing, as a safety net to help your body fight off gum disease. Instead of prescribing a pill that you’ll need to remember to take every day or a mouthrinse that you need to use regularly, we opt for highly effective Arestin microspheres. These are small spheres that we’ll place in the pockets of your gums (the source of the infection) that will gradually release medication over the course of two weeks to combat the infection. It’s simple, effective, and doesn’t require any effort or remembering on your part.
